This April…

I’m taking a simplistic approach this April 2 which is World Autism Awareness Day. No enthusiastic “I’ve got this” or jumping on new or old slogans. Instead I’ve come up with my own mantra. After all, my experiences are my own. They range up and down this very complicated spectrum. Beneath all the emotions, all the ups and downs and all the uncertainty over the years all I ever wanted for my boys (who are very different from each other) is the same thing: to be acknowledged, embraced and appreciated in school and in the work place. Very simple and yet It hasn’t always happened. Those times were tough but with all the awareness vehicles over the years there has been progress. Times have changed since 2002. Society is more understanding, inclusive and appreciative of differences. I’m thankful and I’m proud and I appreciate all of you.
